UCAS response to DfE Statement on Prospectus and CAP

In early November the Department for Education (DfE) announced that decision-making responsibilities in relation to 14-19 prospectuses and the common application process (CAP) would now rest with local authorities, as Ministers believe they are best placed to decide whether to invest in and maintain them based on local needs and priorities.

The subsequent schools White Paper ('The Importance of Teaching', published by DfE on 24 November 2010) sets out plans that put more curriculum flexibility in the hands of individual schools, re-emphasises support for Apprenticeships, recommits to the Wolf Review of vocational qualifications, and restates the intention to raise the statutory participation age to 17 by 2013 and 18 by 2015. UCAS believes that these are measures that will lead to an increasing need for Prospectuses and a CAP that supports young people and providers in accessing and managing opportunities in their local areas.

UCAS remains fully committed to the development of Prospectus and CAP services that meet existing and emerging needs and continue to deliver high value to our customers. In the light of the changing policy context, we are currently reviewing all of our products and services to ensure this continues to be the case.
